With the DVD home entertainment market growing rapidly, it is nice to be able
to distribute pictures to friends on cd's (or DVD's) which they can then
display on their TV's and/or take to the local digi printer for printing.
For computer phobes, you really want to distribute in an easy to view form like
a slide show for TV (DVD player) but yet have the high resolution pictures on
the CD for printing archiving etc.
The question then, is what is the best CD format to use for best compatibility
with pc's **and DVD players** but good archiving too. In general the CD's seem
to not only be cheaper/moire mature tech, but have better errror correcting
than DVD's, so they likely are more robust for long term archiving and can
still be viewed in certain formats on DVD players with TV. Some of the "video"
formats used on CD's have less redundancy/error checking to pack more info in,
so these may not really be so good for reliability reasons. Some DVD players
are certified by Kodak to be compatible with there photo format cd's. What is
the best way to set up your TV slide viewing part of the CD's? There are a
number of programs for doing this but what is best for both ease of viewing and
high resolution archiving or should you do this as two seperate steps.
Has anybody on the list looked into this in detail or got some good web url's
they can recommend? The help files with various cd burner programs ,photo-shop
help etc are not very definitive in helping you choose. A cursory web search
gave rather poor advice.
