Philippe,
I really hate cropping, probably as a carry over from doing my own
processing when I wanted to use as much of the negative as possible to
minimise enlargement. I also reason that having spent a fortune on umpteen
lenses of all focal lengths I should be able to crop with lens choice.
However, I checked out your suggestion and I was intrigued enough to re-scan
and
(horror of horrors) crop severely. I think you are right that the 'shadows
only' version is a stronger image. Live and learn :-)
