I contacted the seller directly by phone (photo shop in Greenville NC).
He apologized and offered without hesitation to refund my purchase
price, shipping charge and return shipping. I was also offered the
option of having their tech service clean the lens at no charge though
I would still have the scratches. Mighty nice folks, wouldn't ya say?
Anyway, I took the refund and will search out another 50/3.5 at a later
date. Thanks to Skip, Bill, Piers and Wayne for your input.
