Much of what makes Scots-English vocabulary different from English-English
is just that, French words borrowed into Scots-English. EG "A _gigot_ of
lamb can be carved on an _ashet_".
Mind you there are borrowings from other languages too - "I threw a cloot at
the clegg", which is possibly equally unintelligble to an English-English
speaker.

The blend of the Scots and French is simply too horrible to contemplate.
