I share a similar peeve Jim. There is a place called Kiewa (pron. Kee-wa)
not far from here. But most Aussie's pronounce it with an R on the end, as
in Kiewar.
Don't know how many arguments I've had with my wife's family about this,
usually after a few ales at a BBQ. The argument usually ends with them
telling me in no uncertain terms that as an immigrant from Canada I don't
know what I'm (expletive deleted) talking about.
But every time my answer is to ask them to write it down and show me the R...
