Hi folks
Well, a little success to report.
The Zuiko 35/2 on the *Bay, that I bid on and about which I asked the vendor
whether it had any marks on the glass of, arrived today. While still up for
auction he had a closer look and found to his dismay that it did indeed have
significant marks on the rear element. Later he found he was able to remove
some of them, and that they were not chipped damage.
I asked Olympus here in NZ if rear elements were still available and found I
could get one from Japan through them at USD$26, in my hands.
Within 5 minutes of getting it out of its box, and with more than a little
effort
using some huffing on the glass and plenty of microfibre cloth, I got all the
mark off the rear element and there is no residual damage I can see. I then
looked closer at the front element and found it had a scum of oily film over
about 2/3 rds of the surface. 5 more minutes and it was clear.
So now I have this amazing-looking lens (with its great curved front element),
and nice clean clear glass.
And no need now to get a new rear element and run the lottery of whether or
not the replacement will have the new element well-centred.
Cheers, Brian
