I have been low-bidding on several DSLRs in the last few weeks. Never been
highest bidder though. One auction was for item #3844993420. Sorry It was a
Canon EOS 20D with 18-55mm lens, not an Olympus E-1 ;-)
Yesterday the seller mailed me the following mail via ebay:

I was not the 2nd or 3rd highes bidder, but #11 and lowest. I answered that
I was willing to pay the amount I opfriginally offered (GBP 450). Now he
answers that this is OK and he wants 480, including FedEx shipping and
insurance from Leicestershire. This sounds like an offer I can't refuse, but
I am a bit conspicious about the whole thing because of a few things:
- The seller is registered in the US but offers in GBP and states that he
delivers from Leicestershire GB.
- The seller mails to me from a Yahoo address (I wil send a mail to the
original seller on ebay to verify that both are the same)
- If the seller offers again as an auction he will most likely make more
money for this item. (Auction ended at GBP 950)
- The second mail I recived had the ebay attachments in French
The things that are positive about the seller (if both really are the same
at least)
- He has 100% positive feedback of 151
- He states that items can be picked up from Leicestershire
- He has sold several cameras earning him the feedback
So here are my questions for advice from the list:
- Am I correct to verify both are the same? If they are not I will look no
furter
- Can this be true or is it a scam after all?
- If I was to go through with this would there be a listmember in the
vicinity of Leicestershire that would be willing to pickj the item up and
send it to me (of course that would not be for free and I would pay in
advance, preferably using Paypal or even by sending cash)
- Does anyone have experience with these second chance offers?
- Has anyone even dealt with the seller?
