Yes, there are such things, but you need to be careful with them. I have only
one, a 58-55mm that I use on a 150/5.6 Schneider Symmar with my 6x9/6x7 gear.
I would hesitate to use one on a so-called "normal" focal length lens, and
never on a wide angle. But in the case you cite as your intended use, it might
not be a problem.
However, 49-40mm is a pretty big drop, and although it could work, I'm guessing
nobody makes one like that. I suppose you could find two and screw them
together, but why? What's wrong with just using a 49mm hood?
