That was my take on it, too. The "large" person in the red shirt was a blokess
(or blokette). From my observation for a couple of minutes prior to taking the
shot, she was definitely in charge of the situation, arranging the children and
directing the husband/photographer. Then the smoochy pair happened by and
stopped to do their thing right in the middle of the scene. I think the
hands-on-hips posture is definitely indicative of her displeasure, and she
apparently said something to them, because they unclenched, looked in her
direction, then moved on.
FWIW, although I haven't often used the 500/8 Zuiko, it is the handiest
possible long lens in terms of size and portability, and I was pleased to see
that in the bright light of the beach, it was still possible, albeit with
careful positioning of the viewfinder relative to the eye, to use the split
image prism in the 2-13 screen for most scenes.
I've decided to take advantage of the convenience of this lens more. It
actually takes up a third less room than, for instance, the 180/2.8 and weighs
about the same. I've had it 20 years and doubt I've taken more than 50 shots
with it because I just don't like the little donut highlights you get
sometimes. But now that I seem to be scanning and pixel pushing more and more,
it shouldn't be all that difficult to fix the bad bokeh when it really needs
it. In this shot, of course, it wasn't a problem.
