I also own a 60-300 SP tamron I don't have a service manual or instruction
manual. But I can tell you how it should work
WARNING you can focus beyond infinity with this lens. With all the olympus
lenses I have if you turn the focusing all the way to the end stop at
infinity, infinity is in good focus. With the tamron turning the focusing
all the way to the end of the infinity side will focus past infinity.
Infinity focus is reached a little before the end!
The lens can work in one of two modes MARCO and normal.
in normal mode pulling the barrel adjusts the zoom and turning the
focusing ring does what you expect. HOWEVER, if you set the zoom to 60 you
can turn the focusing (anti clockwise) to minimum distance and feel some
resistance, if you
turn some more you will feel a bump and then you hit macro mode. In macro
mode you cant turn the focusing ring at all. Instead you focus by pushing
the barrel in and out just as if you where zooming. to go back to normal mode
push the barrel all the way and then twist over the resistive bump.
Hope this makes sense.
Regards
James
