I just received a used but highly useable Gitzo Rational No. 2 #270 head
(3-way panning) purchased off THAT site. Everything seems to be in order, but
there are a couple of bits I don't understand.
One of the panning control handles has two bits through which the handle rod
passes. One is a cylinder about 2cm long, and the rod passes through it
perpindicular to the cylinder's long dimension. There are two set screws on
the cylinder, one which can lock it into place on the rod. The other is a sort
of truncated cone shape, like the top of a volcano one of those cone-shaped
straw hats. The rod passes through it axially and there is no way to secure
it, i.e. it is free to slide up and down the rod.
Anyone have a clue? I have a jpg of the head which I downloaded off
cameras.com I can send out if anyone needs something better than my clumsy
description.
