There are only 2 ways that such an adapter CAN operate without internal
electronics, which none of them have so far.
The Kindai OM=EOS can be set up either way:
1. When the lens is bayonetted into the adapter, the adapter pushes the
aperture close-down tab so that movement of the aperture ring directly
opens and closes the diaphram. Thus one must open it up to focus, then
close it to shooting aperture to take the pic.
2. The adapter does nothing to the aperture. You press the DOF button to
see what speed the camera will select and before pressing the shutter
release.
I don't know if the Kindai OM=> 4/3 adapter has both modes, but it
certainly will have the first.
I believe the Oly OM=> 4/3 adapter only has the first mode, but others
may clarify that.

Whichever mode the adapter uses, yes, the lens has to be at shooting
aperture by manual action separate from the camera body before pressing
the shutter release.

Obviously, it can't work in any mode where the body varies the aperture,
such as program or shutter preferred modes. It works normally in AE mode
and manual mode.

Unless you are in a big rush, why not wait for the next E system body to
be announced this month and see what it offers.
I don't know if there are any listees in your neck of the woods, Santa
Rosa-ish, no?. If you are going to be in the East Bay and would like to
try out the procedure, drop me a line Although I have a Can*n, the drill
is the same. Bring your new eyes. :-)
