Hi Moose,

Yes I finally decided after all that research... thanks for your help
via email. :)

So far I like it. I was disappointed in the sharpness at first while
scanning negatives though I was aware of this drawback after reading
the reviews. The photoshop unsharp mask settings helped a great deal
in this.

The Epson software was easier to use than expected and produced the
results you see. For now I ran in professional mode, let the software
do auto color correction and turned the software's unsharp mask feature
off. The histograms were automatically adjusted and I had to make only
small corrections in color balance after the scan. I found the color
balance usually looked quite good unless the negative was improperly
exposed. I haven't toyed too much with photo scans yet.

One feature I didn't like with software installation was that you
weren't given a choice as to where to install it... the default was
drice c. Unfortunately for me, my drive c was approaching full. It
was originally partitioned with 2, 1 gig partitions, one windows and
one Linux (used for Linux backup). So I had to repartition to combine
the 2 partitions, reformat, and reinstall Win98. What a pain... I
forgot how many times rebooting was necessary during a new
installation.

Thanks for the compliments on the photos. :) The dandelion was taken
using the Vivitar Series 1 90-180/4.5 macro/flat field zoom.
