The pattern is that the "gherkin" pushes up out of the water and opens into
the new blossom several inches above the water. It graduallly drops to
water level, where the whole thing is more comely I think, but it is
definitely on the wane at that stage.
Colors vary. I'll web out a pink one for you. There are yellows, whites,
pinks, lavenders in this spot where I like to photograph. One of the pinks
has brownish leaf pads, rather than the paler greens, and I really like
that contrast. I like the yellows least, mainly because yellow is almost
guaranteed to disappoint when color is really critical in photography, and
digital capture appears to be no different. If I do get a decent capture,
then there is the disappointment of either the wet or inkjet print, which
introduces a whole new set of failings. But I do run on ...
