I've been reading this thread and its associated news articles with
some dismay. I've only ever shot in B+W once and never got it developed
(stupid me!). Recently I was thinking about getting some B+W pre-paid
process envelopes and some Ilford film just to get a feel for the film.
Looks like it isn't worth it now (though I could use Fuji Neopan but is
it as good as Ilford?). I'm most probably wrong but reading about
Ilford's problems I can't help but thinking this has more to do with
Ilford not being bothered with regards to chemical emulsions any more
due to the profitability and popularity of digital. Such a famous
company must have a dedicated fan base which could easily support a
downscaled manufacturing and developing operation? It just seems they've
jumped ship without really considering all of the options available to them.
I do hope this isn't the end for film as I really might just give up
photography if I have to use a digital camera. I hate them with a passion!!!
Best wishes,
Gareth.
