I don't know why, Robert. I have an (allegedly) 2.6GB processor in my
computer at work, running Windows NT4. It runs more slowly with
Photoshop Elements than my little G3 iBook (500MHz). I am making no
comment on the OS, merely on the architecture of the processing system
;-)
If you double the clock speed of your PowerMac processor you get the
approximate equivalent of an Intel processor (et al) running Windoze.
All my (OM-taken) negs or slides are scanned to 200+Mb files before I
fiddle with Levels and reduce to 8-bit; then it is around 75-100Mb. My
G4 1.25MHz takes its time with the larger files, but is quick enough at
less than 100Mb.
