The prime impediment IMO is the cost of the sensors... a well thought out
design that could accomodate multiple legacy cameras, both manual focus and
AF, would have a fine market of older SLR owners... but not if the sensor
alone cost $500. The whole back needs to cost $300 or so... then you get
people who will buy one for their Canon EOS-7 or Minolta X-700 or Nikon F2
or OM-1n... Different backs with a common sensor/electronic module, that
interfaces through the flash sync signal either by built-in contact or the
PC cord. Its a kludge, but would preserve most of the functionality of film
while providing digital capture (with the digital-specific controls on the
back itself...) I've got the concept, but no design ability nor funding...
