John,
I've made a couple of round trips by air within the US during the last year
and have gotten various responses when I requested hand inspection. The film
was in a small ziplock bag and out of the boxes in Fuji's semitransparent
canisters each time. One of the security personnel asked me if the film was 800
or
faster, to which I replied it was not but would he please hand inspect it
anyway. The other times, they didn't even make that big of a deal about it. I
think
they did open the canisters and wipe the rolls with an explosive detector
each time, though.
If you're prepared and polite, you shouldn't have any problems.
Hope you have a great trip!
Greg
