I once achieved 33 mpg in a Taurus station wagon, fully loaded, with a
'brick' shaped luggage carrier on the luggage rack. Doing probably 75 MPH
average. In 90~100 degree heat. Car and luggage carrier were fully loaded.
Blew my mind. (Taurus was base model wagon with 3L V6 and 4sp. Automatic
transaxle).
