I've never tried fireworks, but for static stuff just using auto works
fine. Provia will not start to suffer reciprocity effects for about 2
mins I seem to remember, so I didn't even need to worry about that.
As for fireworks I seem to remember reading about holding card infront
of the lens between bursts - I'm sure there's good writeups to be found
on sites like photo.net.
