Craig, I don't think a 1n cover will fit a 4. I could be wrong though.

I guess you are right.
I have since purchased a om1n so I have still my zuikos operational and may
try checking current draw etc plus try some new batteries on the om4. The
problem is intermittent so will see how it goes. Plus I have yet to do the
magic trick of changing the battery covers over from my chrome om1n to the
om4.
I'm reluctant to purchase another om4(t) so I'll stick with the om1n if the
om4 continues to be unreliable.
In a moment of madness I was thinking of ditching the OM system for the
n#k#n f80 but luckly I came to my senses.

Not good news, I don't know of anybody in UK better placed than those guys
(and as best I can tell nor does Olympus).
Here's another way of looking at it - conventional wisdom, I believe, is
that a circuit failure on a 4 is terminal, due to lack of components. I
guess that the £400 is the cost of sourcing two replacement boards, fitting
one and keeping the second in stock as backup for the 12 months warranty you
will get. It's another way of saying that the problem is terminal, and the
camera beyond economic repair.
http://www.mxvphotographic.com/olympus_mf.htm has an EXC 4 for £199! Or an
EXC- 4Ti for £225!! (I know which I would choose). And maybe LCRS will give
you £25 as salvage for your 4.
No connection, other than as a satisfied repeat customer (of both MXV and
LCRS).

The price came from Luton Camera Repairs. I don't understand why so
expensive either.

Who quoted those prices Craig? There may be a UK repairer better placed to
do the work that sounds necessary.

Hi,
--snip
the quote I have had is £175 for a circuit reset or £400 for a circuit
replacement.
Thanks
Craig
