Born a Brit, but became a Canuck (too) - do I qualify?
The July 1 holiday was originally Dominion Day, celebrating Canada
becoming a self-governing British "dominion" on that day in 1867 with
the passage of the British North America Act (an act of the British
Parliament, note).
The day was renamed to Canada Day (over much protest from
traditionalists) on October 27, 1982.
