I have not tried this,but sounds interesting, if it works.
This makes me think of the father of the modern electronic photo-flashes
(Harold Edgerton of MIT), who always used to estimate the flash power by
putting his hand in front of the flash window and doing a full dump to feel how
hot his hand got. He developed 50000 Joule flashes for night photography from
planes during WW2, which aparently could ignite paper from 20ft or so.
