Glenn,
Doesn't matter how I grab the ring on mine, there's no difference in resistance
to rotation. It feels pretty much the same as all my other Zuikos (21 in all,
including 3 zooms), except for the 400/6.3, where the aperture ring, instead of
smoothly going "tic, tic, tic," goes a finger-jarring "CLACK, CLACK, CLACK."
But it works just fine and dandy otherwise, so it apparently is not a big deal.
I have absolutely no advice to give about whether to keep this lens or send it
back. I'm sure you'll get that from the more astute and knowledgeable folks
here. I'm just reporting my observation.
