Sorry about the OT but I wanted to share a big move for me with the
list.
Early in May I left my job in technical support because I was just so
fed up with the work environment. Since then I've been unemployed and
focusing on 2 continuing ed courses I'm taking (Advanced Photo and
Advanced Photoshop). Having the extra time to get into the darkroom is
really helpful and I think my printing is improving a lot (not to
mention getting into printing on fibre paper).
The big change for me though is that last week I was offered a position
with CUSO which will station me in Laos for 4-6 months. CUSO is
Canadian international development organisation (http://www.cuso.org).
My position is part of their "Netcorps" programme which sends youths to
work on IT projects in various developing countries. It's essentially a
volunteer position with CUSO providing a cost of living stipend.
I'm pretty excited to have the opportunity to experience anther culture
like this and to also have a job which is within my skill sets but that
I feel is more meaningful/rewarding work. At the same time, this came
up pretty suddenly and somewhat unexpectedly so it's a bit of a shock.
The current anticipated start time would be for late September but I
gather that's during the raining season so this may get changed.
So I'm a bit excited and apprehensive at the same time but I think it's
a really interesting opportunity.
[OM content], being gone for 4-6 months I definitely plan on taking a
kit. Especially when I consider the potential for travel once my work
is completed. There are some other gear related concerns that I may
have to post about in the future.
