I've observed this, and heard that capsaicin (the active ingredient in
chilis) can have analgesic effects and increase circulation. I find eating
chilies makes me feel better if I'm under the weather.
Once I had banged myself up in a bike accident and was very stiff and sore
on the left side (think Ethan Frome). I went to a banquet, but figured I was
out of action for the dancing. However, I ate a large jalapeno, and shortly
after felt so much better I got up and danced. It removed 90% of the pain,
which didn't return.
