Hi all,
In the new year I dropped a "mint" Olympus XA in Paris. Dropped it
approx 3ft onto carpeted hotel floor. Back flipped open ruining photog's of New
years eve celebrations and B+w photos of the Eiffel tower.
Only damage seems to be the meter which "moves only when tapped".
Cannot be repaired in UK......Meter not available.
To my suprise (and it made my week) My travel insurance company gave
me a cheque to cover the cost of buying another "mint" XA......£180.00 / $320.
Given that the XA still works what do I do. I have a MJU (stylus 2)
and a good Olympus system...BUT I still have a hankering for a good compact /
rangefinder camera.
HERESY FOLLOWS............Do I send camera to clint (he still has meters) This
will use up half of cheque, OR do I invest the money towards a Leica CL or
Minolta CLE with 40mm lens. I already own a mint Leica 50mm f2 summicron lens
and I really want to try it out. I figure the Minolta / Leica option will cost
me about the same again as the cheque I have been given.
I know we have some Leica users on this list and I would appreciate advice - on
or off list- regards John Duggan
