So you asked the repair specialists, got a very clear answer from one
(and a similar answer from the other one for the OM2(n) in another
thread.) Why quote the manual rather than just rely on the decades of
experience of these repair experts? They are the ones who have been
'fixing' the cameras with wrong batteries in them for all these years by
putting in correct batteries.
Back to your original post. Did you check the new batteries? It is not
unheard of (in fact has been heard here more than once) for batteries in
new packaging to be bad. I always check my back-up batteries with a
voltmeter before they go in the bag and carry 4 back-up batteries.
