I have been on the Olympus digital forums a lot lately because I got a
sudden interest in a C-8080. I was kind of appalled by a lot of the
images on the digicam list because so many looked overexposed to the
point of blowing out the highlights. It is mostly a very amateur list
and they are quite pleased with their photos. I did notice a
contribution by one guy with a site of very nice photos, but they were
all multi metered and had a 1/3 stop exposure reduction. They still
seemed a little "thin", but nothing blown out. In the E-1 list I found
a similar phenomenon, though not nearly so pronounced, with an
explanation. Apparently, according to some there, the digital ESP
matrix metering system overexposes about a 1/2 stop and most people
appy a permanent exposure adjustment to it. The other metering modes
are fine and you have to either remember to take off the exposure
compensation or set up a custom shooting mode.
Has anyone here noticed it?
