It is actually rather easy to remove/replace the focusing screen on the
double digit OMs.
At the top of the opening of the lens mount, above the mirror box, there is
alittle plastic piece with a sort of tab sticking forward on its right side.
It it held in place by a little soft glue and often by the edge of the foam
mirror bumper along its bottom. A little careful prying will pull it
straightout, revealing a small cross point screw holding a little 'L' shaped
bracket of flat metal. If you look up into the front of the mirror box, you
will see the other end of this bracket where it holds in the screen. Remove
the screw, pull out the bracket and the screen is loose. Best to do this
withthe camera on its back and tilting slightly back, so you can remove the
bracket without the screen dropping down without care. The screen surfaces
are quite delicate, particularly the bottom where fine fresnel wedges are
exposed. No worse than replacable screens, but no tab to hold.) So let it
drop onto something soft and lint free. The only trick to reinstallation is
dropping the screen back in with the camera upside down without marring the
surface. A bit of any sort of rubber cement will hold the trim piece when
replaced.
I have no idea what the loose piece is, but it does look like some sort of
trim piece. Perhaps you will be able to see where it comes from. The parts
diagram[1] may help you identify it and find where it goes.
Good luck!

My question: I assume the finder screens on this model are not
interchangeable, as in top OM cameras (there is no release tab visible), but
is there an easy way to actually remove the screen to at least get the
objectout, if not find out what is is and if it's important to put it back
inplace. An image of what is seen through the viewfinder window is at
