I'd advise checking it. I got stopped by security last fall on my way
to Peru, because of my tripod and made to go back and check it.
Luckily, I was able to check the whole bag it was in. Otherwise, there
could have been trouble. I asked the security people about this as
tripods are not on the "list" and was told "its a judgement call."
Helpful. Women I know who are needleworkers and like to work on the
plane have made a little necklace pendant very popular: Its circular
and has small blades inside with tiny notches on the cover, so that one
can cut thread. The whole thing is maybe 1" (2.5cm) across. TSA has
recently decided that someone might pry the pendant open and use the
tiny blades as a weapon, so they are no longer allowed.
