I went back and looked at this photo very closely. I find the brightness of
the sign consistant with the brightness of what I assume to be yellow flowers
in the background. I also wouldn't be surprised to find out the sign board
had some kind of whitener in it.
I find there is a two part mind set with the digital crowd. The first part
says that every outstanding, or funny, or ironic must have been done in
photoshop. We never made a good photo with a camera and an enlarger. The
other part is B&W is nothing but desaturated color and therefore is somekind
of second cousin to color.
