Grain size has not changed, only the perception of what is acceptable
has changed. I know because I scanned some old Agfachrome slides that I
knew when I used it was a little grainy, but worth it for the rich
color. Looked like sand paintings. :-) A chance to be creative when
printing.
Film made major strides in the last 10 or 12 years.
