There has been a lot of discussion on Olympus's telecentric Digi-lens designs,
for digital use, to improve drop off of light at corners of digital imagers.
Here is an interesting reference on using TC lenses the other way round, to
eliminate perspective distortion in close-up applications for metrology. These
lenses can measure linear dimensions correctly at different (close-up)
distances from the lens and they could reduce big nose effects in extreme
portrait closeups! See picture comparison:

Flatbed Scanners should do this inherently, at least in one dimension, as long
as the depth of field is adequete.
