Whoa, that was a mega-digest! Thanks Thomas, for the arm-twisting
with free.fr. Lets hope we're back to normal. . .
Catching up on an earlier thread I missed, I also picked up a Vivitar
28/2 for OM. The serial number is 221133XX, so presumably it's
another of the Kiron's--but this one has a non-rotating front
element. The fit and finish is hardly in the Zuiko class, but it does
seem like it could have its uses.
The snag is, the diaphragm is stuck open. I knew this when I bought
it, and I got a T20 and some other goodies in the same lot, all for
~$30, so I wouldn't be too sad to give up on it.
But I'm reasonably handy, and thought I might try to open it up and
fix it. I got as far as removing the mount and aperture-setting ring
(and was able to reassemble those without incident); but it wasn't
clear how to proceed to get at the iris mechanism itself.
Is this a job worth attempting? Anyone care to give suggestions on
how to get in there? Offlist if it's too OT for here. (I'm not
concerned with economic rationality here, this is a learning
experience. . . )
Thanks,
-- Ross
