Stephen,
I have ZERO experience with the 10D, but the number of people that have
reported issues with focusing on a small percentage of 10D's, especially mated
to specific lenses, is disturbing. I've seen at least five, independent
postings about someone having problems with a 10D and their L-series, IS lens.
They sent both the lens and the camera back to Canon USA, some multiple times
before the issue was fixed. At least a couple of these people sold their Canon
gear as a result.
This of course does not take into account the many tens-of-thousands of happy,
10D users, only a very small, vocal, computer-savvy group.
I have not seen any postings about the 1D or D60 regarding focusing.
My advice? Take it at face value and make your own decision.
