Friday afternoon FredEx dropped off a package containing my OM-4ti
black, 24 shift and 50/1.2 lenses, purchased from aforementioned good
guy George Smith. Christmas in March! I've wanted one of each of these
from the moment I first saw them, what, 15 years ago? I can't even
remember. -Very- exciting. Put a roll of Fuji Press 200* through
yesterday and today, using the 75-150 I got from Jim Couch, and the
50/1.2. I haven't got the nerve to try the 24 shift yet. That is one
intimidating piece o' glass!

First impressions... Mis-set the ASA, after setting it to 200 then not
realizing I needed to shift the exposure compensation knob back to
neutral. Figured that out about halfway through the roll...doh! DOF on
the 50/1.2 is razor thin as Skip noted. I'm not convinced I like the
two-touch zoom as well as a one-touch like the N*kon 75-150 Series E I
have, but it's early for that. Spot metering is way cool. Did take a
couple extra frames by mistake reaching for the spot button... I really
like the viewfinder display. The features (highlight, shadow,
multi-spot, memo) are all really pretty smart. I'm going to like this
camera. It'll be interesting once I get my OM-1 back from John
Hermanson to see how that feels in comparison.

Did discover that although the focus turns toward infinity the same
direction as my Leica, the aperture ring on the OM turns the opposite
way. (Whereas with my Nikon FG, the aperture turns the same way as the
Leica, focus is opposite.) Ah well. I guess ultimately having the focus
the same takes priority, especially if I'm using Auto mode on the SLR.
(I'm probably going to be using both SLR & RF out of the same bag on
this next trip.)

I'll post some photos...maybe get in on TOPE 18 if I can....

PS - Fuji Press 200... I've been shooting mostly Press 400 lately, but
thought I'd try a compromise. I LOVE Reala...but it's just too slow for
what I'm doing now. So I was hoping I could get some Reala quality with
a little faster film. I _think_ I'm going to find that on my trip to
Australia, where it will actually be sunny, I'll shoot Reala during the
day, and NPZ 800 (Portrait) indoors. Two bodies would be ideal for
this...so maybe I will take my OM-1 as well.
