During WWII when my mother was working at Bell Labs, some staff had set up
speakers in the lobby outside the dining hall. They were made--at least
partly--from gold plated animal gut (she swears by this) and were playing
a recording of "Oklahoma!" loudly and in STEREO.
It attracted a big crowd, and must have sounded impressive, at the time.
She recalled people looking around for an orchestra hidden in a vestibule
somewhere.
