Hello - Welcome to the last place you will have any money...!
The M1 is considerably more rare than the OM-1. I believe I saw somewhere
the total production of M1-badged bodies was only a few thousand, and the
OM-1 sold more than a million bodies.
I think a clean M1 body is probably worth at least three or four times as
much as a similar condition OM-1. Having said that, there are very few
differences mechanically from the M1 to OM-1, so the repairs should be
feasible and not any more expensive unless you need specific cosmetic parts
e.g. top plate, etc. A meter mechanism is probably a direct equivalent
between the M1 and the OM-1.
I would NOT let the shop exchange the M1 for an OM-1... they should either
repair the M1, or you can get probably the best repairs you will find
anywhere from either John H. or Clint, both of whom monitor this list.
