Well,
It's on the way. I decided AGAINST the new Minolta A2 and went
and bought an A1 instead. Trust me, it was one really tough
decision.
But for what I wanted the camera for, I didn't need the A2's
extra resolution. The gains of the 8MP sensor were minimal as
the limiting factor appears to be the lens design. But the new
and improved viewfinder made the choice hard. Oh, and the gold
trim.
Why I bought the A1 instead of the A2:
1. Faster write performance
2. Lower battery consumption
3. $450 price difference
4. Helps justify the E-1 (or E-2) purchase within the year
5. Chromatic Aberations of the 8mp sensor
6. Didn't want to completely retire the OM equipment yet.
7. It's only been out 6-months--nothing wrong with it.
8. More manageable file sizes for improved workflow for
portrait/event photography.
9. It'll be the family camera/spare/backup as soon as I go with
a DSLR.
With the lowercost extended warrenty (I actually bought one of
these worthless things? Hey, it was cheep) the savings was over
$500. Also, I bought the vertical battery grip and an extra
battery and a Gig worth of storage.
I'm preparing for an upcoming event. I'll have the stage lit
with my studio flash mounted up in the balcony. Radio
triggered. Additional flash will be mounted on my stroboframe.
Standard setup, just using digital. Of course, my film gear
will be along "just in case". I will have a booth setup this
year where I'll be selling prints right at the event. Laptop,
S9000 and a carton of ink and paper. Based on past experience,
I might pay for the entire A1 kit with just this one event.
I think I'll like digital.
