An interesting article appeared on page B5 of the 2 February 2004 issue of The
Wall Street Journal, titled "Sanyo and Pioneer Say Digital Craze Boosts
Earnings".
Basically, the article says that people are buying lots of cellphones and
digital cameras, causing third-quarter profits to jump nicely. Sanyo's 2003 Q3
net profit is almost triple what it was a year ago (2002 Q3), sales having gone
up 14%.
In passing, the article mentioned that Sanyo makes more digital cameras than
any other company in the world, but supplies them to other comanies, such as
Olympus. No specific camera models or types were mentioned, but I would guess
that it's point-and-shoots that are the bulk of the cameras in question.
