You've pretty much hit in the head already. It's still pretty fast
(f/2.8, I believe?), and from what I've read, still has excellent
low-light performance. The 27-110 mm, 4X Optical Zoom with Wide Angle
capabilities, was, like for you, very appealing to me, as well as the
improved noise performance. Oly's first series of 5 megapixel
cameras, C-5050Z and C-50Z (the E20 notwithstanding) were somewhat
slammed for their noisy sensors. The other things I liked when I
played and shot with one at Keeble and Schuchat were the somewhat
faster boot-up and boot-down times, and the (somewhat) reduced
shutter lag (at least compared to my C-4040Z). The last two things
were the two that drove me to distraction about my C-4040Z, so when
the C-5060 seemed improved in this area, it seemed like an
improvement to me for things that were really irksome with my little
Oly Prosumer all-'n-one. My understanding is that the Oly f/2.8
lenses seem to show less purple fringing behavior, but my
recollection may be incorrect about that. The other thing that
appealed about it is probably a negative in some people's book, and
that is the proprietary battery, which IMHO, I like better than AA
form factor rechargeables. They seems to last longer and recharge
faster. My D60's BP-511's are outstanding batteries. The other
things that appealed were that it took compact flash and shoots in
RAW. I know the C-5050 did, too, but the noise issues with that
camera meant I was never going to buy it. Also, Dave Etchells at
Imaging Resource really, really liked it, and that carries a lot of
weight for me; he's always been more open to Oly's than Phil Askey at
DPReview, IMHO. It's one of "Dave's Picks"; somehow Dave comes across
as more down to earth than Phil, and I tend to put somewhat more
weight in what he says for that reason. Though I don't like his
photographing a picture poster for showing resolution details. Phil
has always seemed a bit biased against Oly's, but I digress. So, there
you have it.....all in all, I think Oly put a really nice range of
capabilities on the camera. Plus you have an incredible degree of
photographic control, though some features are buried in menus. Last
but not least, I loved the build quality. Oly can really build 'em
nice.
