Castroville is just a bit west of San Antonio. I can clearly recall a
little photo shooting expedition there about 40 years ago. I ended up
roaming the cemetery since it was such a fascinating place.
My first recollection is that it was segregated between Mexican and
others. The Mexican side was very poor with simple markers but loaded
with flowers. The other side was pretty much devoid of flowers but had
expensive head stones in comparison.
I have no recollection of French names in the cemetary but there were
lots of German names from the 1840's. Not necessarily inconsistent with
being Alsation I suppose.
