Not technically true of my little S110. The bright frame viewfinder
doesn't show focus at all. The LCD does show whatever is hitting the
sensor through the lens and that can be in focus or not. Setting close
focus mode on a distant subject results in a clearly out of focus image
on the LCD, as does the reverse. As a practical matter, the resolution
of the LCD is not sufficient to make it useful for focusing, although I
can see gross errors (remember, my right eye is 20/10, much sharper than
'normal'). However, there is no manual focus anyway. I put what I want
in focus in the little brackets, push down partway, frame and shoot. If
the result is out of focus (pretty easy to see on the LCD, esp, when
zoomed), I try again. I have far more problems with focus/shutter lag,
as my grandaughters move pretty fast. Works fine for slower subjects.
