Focusing screen can make a big difference here. My Meade 1000/11 focuses
easily with a 1-7, certainly easier than a 2-4. The split image and
microprisms of the regular, 'for most lenses' screens are useless with
it. Still pretty shallow DOF for fast moving targets, but pretty easily
usable for most subjects. I recently got a 1-8, but haven't tried it on
the 1000mm yet. I need to sit down with tripod and 2 bodies to compare
1-7 and 1-8. The hawks are hanging around the nest across the street
again, so I may have subjects soon.

The .Celestron can of course, also be used as a super telephoto lens
with a simple adapter.
