I finished the poem, made it 14 lines long. Does that make it a
sonnet? Move over, Shakespeare!
I went to the store to get you a card;
I pilfered the racks, yard after yard.
I elbowed old ladies, and young ones too;
As I searched for a card just right for you.
But soon my spirits, they started to sag;
The cards were so sappy, they all made me gag.
And a card is just something to read and then lose;
So I decided instead just to buy you some booze.
It would have been better if I'd taken more time;
And picked out some stuff with a name I could rhyme.
There's scotch and crotch and bourbon and turban;
But those are just dumb, and really disturbin'.
There's not much in English that sounds like Marnier;
So let me just say, Happy Valentine's Day!
