Notes from PMA: The new D-580Z looks like the cool little Digital
Stylus series. I guess most you saw the announcement of the C-8080Z
today at PMA. It will be interesting to see how this camera stacks up
to the Sony F828 and the new C*n*n Pro1. The C-8080 also looks quite
large in the hand compared to the C*n*n. My concern for all of these
cameras is what the noise levels will be like with 8 megapixels in
the sensor size used (2/3"). The Minolta A1 have been discussed here
at some length, but I've always found Minolta's form factor to be
rather cluttered-looking. The Z1 looks downright weird. Also, I'm not
a big fan of electronic viewfinders at all, and this makes me wonder
what I will think of the new Oly and Canon Pro 1. Certainly from the
photos I've seen from the Pro1, noise looks like a concern. Looks
like Oly has a new little printer that looks to be some sort of dye
sub for 4X6 prints...if so, that looks pretty cool. To my mind, the
coolest all-in-one new digital I've seen to date has been the C-5060Z.
C*n*n just released some full-res photos from their new 1D Mark
II....I downloaded them, and when I first opened one of them on the
monitor, all I could say was "Ohmig*d!" I upsampled them and printed
them out of my Epson 2200 and they look absolutely gorgeous. The
rendition of skin tones and the subtleties of detail are just
STUNNING. WOW! There is no "digital look" to these photos, they look
like medium format, slow slide film, like they were shot on a 'Blad
with Provia 100. Really, really impressive. If any of you have a good
printer and want to download them, go to this link and do a "download
link to disk"...

Use your Fred's SI action to upsample them and print them out. I
printed the one of the bride with no sharpening at all it looks
absolutely beautiful.
For those of you using the Epson 2200, Epson just released new
profiles for all of their papers, with two profiles per paper, one
for 1440 and one for 2880. These new profiles are modeled after the
Atkinson profiles and look really, really nice.

On another note, Lexar just released 80X CF cards....man, it just
keeps getting better and better!
