Hey gang, one of the guys I shoot with, Mike, borrowed an E-1 from
the local Oly rep for a weekend and shot the Supercross race at the
Cow Palace in The City. He called me and said he was really impressed
with the cameraHe had a 14-54 and a 55-200 to use, and most ended up
using the 14-54 for the racing. He shot about 135 images and gave a
CD to the Oly rep who was so impressed with his images that he is
going to print them out and show them at PMA next week. Mike said he
particularly the fast shutter release, build quality, the low weight
compared to a Canon set-up and the image quality from the Zuiko
lenses. He shot in the largest TIFF size on the camera. He also had a
flash to use with the camera.
For those interested, here is one of his photos:

I think it looks great.
For those of you interested, there is also a full review of the E-1
in the latest issue of Shutterbug, March 2004.
This issue is an all-digital issue, and there is an interesting
article on a group of pro photographers from all over the world that
cover Carnaval in Brazil. What jumped out at me when asked, "film or
digital" is that almost all of them, to a person, said they don't see
much future for film, especially for photojournalists.
I also read tonight in a British mag that Ricoh has stopped making
film cameras. Such is the passing of time; I remember printing years
ago some 2 1/4 stuff that my mother shot in Japan with her $15
Ricohflex TLR when I was very young.
