Brian,
You may know about this, if so then disregard but I've found it invaluable.
I've just installed Mailwasher (free light version, Pro sells for $US19 if
you're from Oz or NZ and I think that it's NZ produced). It allows you to
actually open the mail to investigate it but doesn't allow for
opening/initialising attachments. Primarily written to discourage SPAM, it
quarantines all downloaded mail before it gets to your email app. After
deleting, bouncing, and/or blacklisting all unwanted rubbish one can then
send the remainder to your email program.
Hope this is of interest although I apologise if everyone already knows
about it. I'm always a little behind these days...

Hi folks
Beware
If you get a message reading like this one, don't click on the link; the
page
dumps a virus on your machine ( mine got caught and killed - I think).

Take out the asterisks I inserted and you get the dangerous URL.
It didn't originate from Finland as it seems to indicate, but the USA.
And NO, I didn't think I had won $12305. I was just curious to see what
particular crank trick this one was. It's the first time I have encountered
a site
that dumps a virus on you as soon as you visit. It goes directly into the
browser cache.
