No, the only way to completely eliminate the battery drain is to remove the
batterys. However, if you turn the shutter to the red-colored 'B' or '60'
the finder illumination switch (for the light on the viewfinder LCD display
and the meter switch-on from the shutter button -are- disabled, to reduce
the chance of accidentally switching on the meter while the camera is in a
carry bag or case.
I've wondered if there is room enough inside the bottom cover to install a
small switch in the battery's wire to the circuit board...
